May 2025 Newsletter

May is a busy month here at Grizzly Creek Lodge. A lot of time and effort goes into our grocery and gear lists. Grocery shopping is my least favorite thing to do, so I’m always an unwilling participant in the grocery shopping spree that happens each spring.

Once everything has been purchased, it’s all packed into Rubbermaid tubs and hauled to the float base for the trip into the lodge. The beaver can haul 1200 pounds per trip, and this year, it took three trips to get everything into the lodge. That’s 3,600 pounds of food and gear that we have handled multiple times by the time it arrives at the lodge and is stored away!

Our first group of the year flies in on June 2nd, and our early-season water levels are ideal for excellent fishing. My plan this year is to send out a couple of summer newsletters detailing a 7-day trip on a day-by-day basis. That will give anglers who haven’t fished with us before an idea of what to expect.

  • On our waters, lake trout can be found in great numbers in the shallows throughout June. New for 2026, we are going to offer a one-on-one trip that will run from June 8th through the 15th. A one-on-one trip means each angler will have an individual guide, and since we only run with two guides, that means there will only be two anglers in camp that week. These two lucky anglers will have the entire watershed all to themselves! This trip will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and both fly and spin fishers are welcome. The package price for this one-on-one adventure is $7,500.
  • Our 2025/26 winter trapping season is now full, but we are building a cancelation list and taking bookings for the 2026/27 winter season.
  • Our 2026 summer season will run from Monday to Monday, starting June 1st, and we are now taking bookings.

Yukon celebrated Paramedic Services Week from May 18th to 25th this year.

As many of you know, during the off-season, both Reg and I volunteer for our local ambulance service. This year, we both received our national 12-year service awards; and I won the Barry Kidd, Excellence in EMS award, that was presented to me by Barry’s wife and our youngest daughter Katie at the spring conference. Reg also won this award in 2019.
