Who We Are

The Legacy

The O'Farrells have been blessed with the opportunity to earn their living from the land since 1987.

David started working at Grizzly Creek Lodge as a guide in 1989. Doug & Carol Skanse bought the lodge the following year and hired David and his wife Reggie to manage the daily operations. They stayed on in that capacity for the next 21 years. In 2012 they were able to purchase the lodge and realized a lifelong dream.

With a love for everything outdoors, David & Reggie have continued to conduct business with an eye on sustainability and the honesty and integrity clients learned to expect from Doug & Carol.

Published Outdoor Writer

Doug Skanse first visited Grizzly Creek Lodge in 1981. He quickly fell in love with the land of the midnight sun, and came back several more times during the early 1980s. He was back in 1990 with three of his sons, when he found out the lodge was for sale. He arranged to purchase the lodge that same year. Over the next two decades Doug and his wife Carol spent a large part of each summer at the lodge. Together they rebuilt the place from the ground up. Two new lodges complete with guest cabins, shower, and boat houses were built, one on lower Toobally Lake and one on upper Toobally. All of the boats, motors and equipment were upgraded as well.

During those years the Skanses were incredibly generous and brought up many members of their family and friends so that they too could enjoy their oasis in the wilderness. Carol was the quintessential hostess, and Doug was a master on the water. They loved nothing more than to see the smiles on the faces of their guests. Their attention to detail in everything they did is what puts Grizzly Creek Lodge in a league of its own. They left us a legacy that included honesty and integrity . Doug used to say that you can have the best fishing in the world, but if you dont conduct yourself with honesty and integrity, you are bound to fail. We are proud Doug and Carol gave us the opportunity they did; and we intend to keep their legacy alive. David & Reggie O'Farrell
